Based on the classic Sega game, Sonic is an anthropomorphic hedgehog with the superpower of super speed. His nemesis is Dr. Robotnik, a mad scientist super genius who builds robots and other devices to take over the world.

Sonic banished Robotnik through a space portal in the last movie, but he’s back and Sonic has to stop him again. But this time he gets to team up with other anthropomorphic animals from his home world.

Alan: I really enjoyed the first movie in this series. Video games and movies don’t have a great history. It feels like they are often not taken seriously or aren’t true to their source material. The original just did a terrific job and I was really looking forward to this one.

Michelle: If I didn’t have kids who were excited to see Sonic the Hedgehog 2, I would’ve happily skipped watching this film. Sonic 2 was entertaining as far as children’s movies go. It’s packed full of action scenes and comedy.

Alan: Jim Carrey’s frantic physical comedy is perfect for the over-the-top villany the video game boss Dr. Robotnik. He was very funny.

Michelle: It’s a fun, ridiculous movie for kids. Not much there for the older crowd. But, the kids enjoyed it.

Alan: Sonic 2 was more slapstick and less serious. It seems to be targeted much more tightly at kids. I enjoyed it but not as much as the original. My kids loved it. I highly recommend it for children. For adults I give it three stars, mostly for Jim Carrey.

Michelle: I also give it three stars. Kids would say it’s four or five stars.
