In a world of anthropomorphic animals there are certain beings that everyone knows are bad: Sharks, Piranha, Snakes, Spiders and, of course, the Big Bad Wolf. As “The Bad Guys” they steal lots and lots of stuff in elaborate heists. Everyone is afraid of them. But the wolf is kind of getting tired of being a bad guy.
Alan: This was a really fun movie. It is a heist movie with over-the-top action that only animation can provide.
Michelle: This is a fun movie kids want to watch that parents can enjoy, too. The story is solid and the heists are creative. The voice actors do a great job adding individuality to the animated characters.
Alan: It has a great visual aesthetic. The animators cribbed animation style from Into the Spiderverse and it looks great.
Michelle: Yes, the visuals are very good. Maybe they took good inspiration from the illustrations in the source children’s books. The animation style is charming and creatively shows the trickery the Bad Guys use to steal loot.
Alan: You expect a good heist movie to have double agents, betrayal and clever misdirection. The Bad Guys does not disappoint. It is a solid heist movie and if you generally enjoy those, I expect you will enjoy this. I give it five stars.
Michelle: The Bad Guys is a superb kid’s movie adaptation of a book series and gives audiences a fun hour and forty minutes. My kids loved it too. But I feel like I’ve seen this story before. Nothing in it surprised me. I give it four stars.
